Discover the dramatic and divers history of this ancient hill fortress. Founded in the Iron Age, Romans, Saxons and Normans have all left their mark. Situated high above Salisbury Plain, this was the original Salisbury – and it occupies a unique place in history. William the Conqueror built a great palace and the first Salisbury Cathedral here. Part of the Doomsday book was written here, and on it’s completion it was to Sarum that William summoned all the landholders in England to swear their oath of allegiance.

Old Sarum offers superb woodland and chalk-down walks, and views across beautiful countryside covered with wild flowers. You’ll have perfect settings to enjoy a site steeped in history.
